Kitchen Kapelye play music from the Klezmer tradition, Eastern Europe, and beyond. Klezmer is lively, sometimes soulful, instrumental music originating in Eastern Europe, and is associated with Jewish weddings and celebrations. ‘Kapelye’ is the Yiddish word for band and, yes, they rehearse in a kitchen. Eastern European tunes are also great dance tunes, sometimes in unusual rhythms and the two have been played alongside each for centuries – dancing and even singing along is welcomed!

Originally formed in 2018, their latest line-up of Jenny, Kath, Martin, Michael and Steph dates from 2023.  They are all old hands at traditional music, song and dance in the Bristol area, being variously members of folk bands, ceilidh dance bands, choirs and dance groups.
