Priddy Folk Festival couldn’t book our old favourites Jamie Smith’s Mabon for the festival this year because of their touring commitments, but we have managed to book them for a special “family concert” in March at the Priddy Village Hall.
Jamie Smith’s Mabon have headlined the festival twice, and were the first band to get the whole of Swildon’s marquee on their feet! The group are famed for their live shows and have built their reputation on their energetic and exciting performances. With the five highly accomplished band members playing original InterCeltic/World music which invariably gets audiences up and dancing.
Fronted by accordionist and lead singer, Jamie Smith, with Oliver Wilson-Dickson on violin and Adam Rhodes on bouzouki, Mabon have been described as “exhilarating, just exhilarating”. Songlines magazine said: “If music could fuel engines, Mabon could solve the energy crisis.” And The Financial Times said: “A fearsome reputation as a live band … stratospheric.”
The band has been on the road with its new album “The Space Between” tour since October and continues in 2016, with gigs which will take them zig-zagging around the country and beyond – from London to Gateshead and from Wales to France and Belgium. Priddy is going to be the only gig in this area.
The Priddy concert is on Sunday 13th March doors open at 4:30pm. Tickets are £10 (£12 on the door) from Dean Collier email mabon16@priddyfolk.org, tel 01749 678949
