Altan confirmed for Priddy 2016

Altan, the giants of Irish traditional music, are the latest great addition to the Priddy Folk Festival 2016 line-up and are scheduled in as Saturday night headliners.

The band, formed in the early 1980s by flute-player Frankie Kennedy and singer/fiddler, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, have taken their brilliant encapsulation of the unique Donegal folk sound around the world, delighting audiences as far afield as America and Japan establishing themselves as arguably the preeminent Irish traditional band in the world.

Despite the tragic loss of Frankie Kennedy, who very sadly died of cancer in 1994, the band have gone from strength to strength, becoming the first band of their type to sign to a major record label – Virgin Records – in 1996 and registering record sales in the hundreds of thousands worldwide.

Altan’s authentic rendition of the beautiful music of Donegal wins them friends wherever they go and their appearance at Priddy Folk Festival 2016 is set to be one of the highlights of our weekend.

Talented Somerset-based singer-songwriter Nathan Ball has also been added to the this year’s Priddy line-up. Nathan’s haunting tunes and perceptNathanball2ive lyrics have led to comparisons with Nick Drake and Cat Stevens but his is an individual, unique voice.

He released his Stand Up album in 2015. You can hear him perform the title track here
