We have two more exciting names to add to our roster for 2018 which we are sure you are going to love.
John Dipper and Dave Malkin are Dipper Malkin – a duo making exquisite music drawing on traditional folk and original tunes. Dave plays guitar and provides a haunting vocal while John plays viola d’amore – a baroque instrument from the viol family with seven bowed and seven sympathetic strings.
The result is a beautiful, pure sound that has the feel of classical without ever straying out of folk territory. Both players have an exciting pedigree. John was one third of The English Acoustic Collective alongside Chris Wood and Robert Harbron and currently works with string quartet Methera, while Dave Malkin (guitar, voice) was a founding member of trio Tandem, stylishly combining traditional compositions with live electronics.
Their debut album Tricks of the Trade is a case in point, brilliantly combining excellent musicianship with fabulous tunes and some well-chosen vocal number, all with a delightful historic period feel. You can get a taste of the album here
Five years a member of Priddy favourites The New Rope String Band, Vera van Heeringen is superb at everything – songwriting, guitar playing and performing on just about anything with strings. She also has a fabulously warm, characterful voice too, mixing folky compositions with a beautifully crafted Americana feel which has won the admiration of many big names of the British folk scene.
Kris Drever was among a clutch of fine musicians to appear on her 2015 album Proper Brew and she comes to Priddy with her trio, completed by well-regarded country guitarist Dave Luke and former Kate Rusby Band bassist and renowned record producer Andy Seward.
