The Fringe Tent on the Market Field offers one of the most relaxed and intriguing offerings at the Festival: an eclectic mix of talented songwriters and musicians from across the West Country.
Entry is free, no wristband required. That means you can drop in between other sessions — it’s a place to wander in, stay a while, and discover something you weren’t expecting. You might find yourself staying all afternoon!
Here’s who you’ll find in the Fringe Tent this year:
Acoustic singer-songwriters
The work of Mark Abis has been used for TV, films and has been covered by other musicians. Now he’s been signed up to the publishing company of Joe Boyd — the legendary producer behind Nick Drake and Fairport Convention. An artist you might soon be paying to see elsewhere!
Nicki Davey is a songwriter inspired by landscape, legends and dark Americana. Her songs connect audiences with magical places and ancient tales. She’s also one of the people who organises the Fringe.
Shane Robbins is the newest name on the bill — a South Bristol solo artist who only began performing publicly at the start of 2026, but who has been developing his craft for years under the influence of Nick Drake, Elliott Smith and Wilco. Catch him early in his career!
Cathy Judge and Johnny Francis: Cathy is a well-known Somerset singer/songwriter with a rich, velvety voice and a catalogue of beautifully crafted ballads. She’ll be singing with long-time musical partner Johnny Francis.
Bob Gallie used to be the lead vocalist for the heavy metal band Radio Moscow (set up by Diamondhead’s guitarist Brian Tatler). Since he moved to Somerset, his music has changed a lot: he’s got a beautiful voice and knows how to use it to deliver passionate songs.
Roots, Americana and good times
The Cowsville Hummingbirds are a soul trio from the Dorset/Somerset borders. Featuring fiddle, guitar and banjo, they’ll be performing a mix of Americana standards and heartfelt originals. A rare chance to see these three experienced musicians together.
Tex Braithwaite and the Biryani Brothers are a foursome that that share the fun to be had with country music. They play light-hearted renditions of hits by Hank Williams, Bing Crosby, Frankie Lane and other classic country performers of yesteryear. Sit back and smile!
Gorgeous vocal harmonies
Cahoots are two seasoned acoustic guitarists who showcase tight vocal harmonies and fingerstyle guitar, spanning traditional English folk, Americana and originals. A lovely sound to spend some time with.
Devon indie-folk duo Wild Fenn combine intricate harmonies and emotionally powerful songwriting. Their 2024 debut EP launched with a sold-out Plymouth show; their second is underway, with the first track, ‘Wisps in the Willows’, out now.
Three Rivers are a close-harmony a cappella trio from the South West that draw on Karine Polwart, The Wailing Jennys and Etta James, among others. Their refined arrangements and three-part blend have built them a loyal following.
Feral Beryl certainly have the best name in the lineup (although there is some good competition above). This all-female trio’s very wide mix of influences includes hymns, classical music, blues, folk, and country.
Singing for Joy is a Wells-based community choir led by Maya Love of Dragonsfly, featuring four-part harmonies, rhythms from around the world and an infectious energy.
The Fringe is free — but if you’re making a weekend of it, the main Festival programme runs across seven locations with more than 30 acts in the main music lineup. Tickets for the whole weekend start from £136 – get yours now!

Open mic sessions
If you want to share your own music, the Festival has two Open Mic sessions, from 7.30 pm on Friday and Saturday (sign up from 7 pm at the Fringe tent).
Music workshops for older children and families
On Saturday and Sunday mornings, starting at 11:15, The Nightjars will run free two-hour music workshop sessions. These sessions are suited to older children and their families, as well as to anyone who simply enjoys playing alongside others.
